The second in The Tulum Series - Quetzalcoatl and Monarchs on the platform of skulls. The mayan believed that monarch butterflies represented the souls of our loved ones in the after life. So, I thought it only fitting that on the platform of skulls, we should have the juxtaposition of the symbolism of the afterlife. 

Here are a few progress shots of this painting and a close up of the butterflies. I may work on this one again to get a different effect to Quetzalcoatl.
